~Frédérique's Workshops~

-Charm Arms (Saturday June 26, 2010... 9am - 11am)

Learn Frédérique's individual and unique approach to arms, upper-body gesticulation, and more importantly, exploration to help you find your own style through your frame work. Arms are your opportunity to apply your personality and expression through dance. Often the focus is on your hips and abdominals in your belly dance training. This workshop will be a different approach to your training. The focus will be all arms with torso, shoulders, and head subtleties for defined and/or refined expression. One of the final frontiers in dance expertise are hands, right down to your finger tips. Frédérique has ample knowledge to share with you on your awareness of hand and finger placement.

In this workshop, we will work on obtaining elegance, and grace for a polished look to your individual style. Strengthening, emotional expression, and drills specifically developed and designed by Frédérique.

Class begins with a short lecture and ends with Q and A.

-Tribal Fusion Combos (ATS) (Saturday 26, 2010...2pm - 4pm)

Want to add to your tribal (ATS) or fusion vocabulary? Learn new combinations that apply to the ATS format of lead and follow developed with non-verbal cues. Frédérique has created new Tribal Fusion combos with fundamental roots in ATS. What makes this workshop unique is that it works with both styles; the improvisational dancers and choreographers alike. Each short combo will have a non-verbal cue for the ATS at heart however for those who just want combos for choreography, it also applies. Be prepared to focus on strong technique throughout the class.
By the end we will all be dancing new tribal fusion combos together, as a tribe. Class begins with a short lecture and ends with Q and A. *Prior knowledge in ATS is recommended but not necessary, Frédérique will go over the concept in class.

-Living for Layering (Sunday June 27, 2010...12pm - 2pm)

Frédérique's comprehensive approach to layering is for those who are interested in solidifying their technique, or those who simply want to learn how to layer. She will go over the fundamentals in what makes layering delectable to your spectators and peers alike, and why. We will work on articulating our hips and chest assisted by technique and fluidity while we drill: variations in time signatures with our hips / shimmies and chest isolations, while adding other flourishes to express the moment in the music. The frame work of your articulations; head, arm, and leg placement will be heavily scrutinized.

Class begins with a short lecture and ends with Q and A.

Ultimate World Fusion Drum Solo Choreography (Saturday June 26, 2010...11:30pm - 1:30pm)

In this workshop we will learn an exciting choreography to a drum solo that incorporates elements of Cabaret and Tribal bellydance, Tahitian and Hawaiian Hula, Afro-Brazilian Samba, Bhangra, Odissi, Hip Hop, Salsa, and other dances from across the globe.

M'chelle DeMars - KCMO

Iso-What?!?: Boxcar Fusion Com-blin-nations (Sunday June 27, 2010...9am - 11am)

In this class M'chelle will explore some of the quirks and queries of Boxcar Fusion Bellydance, movements that make it tick, transitions to pull it all together, and combinations to package it in with brown paper and twine. Students will leave the class with an understanding for the juice that powers Boxcar Fusion, moves to play with, and material that can be utilized in choreography, improv, or anything in between.
